Colours from your titles
Android only for now.
When you type a new event's title, Calendite suggests a colour for it. Christmas comes out red, a dentist's appointment a pale mint, a beach day peach. You can keep the suggestion, choose one of its alternatives, or pick anything else. Over time it learns the colours you pick yourself, and you can see and change what shapes its suggestions.
Everything happens on your phone. Your titles and colours are never sent anywhere.
Where the suggestion comes from
Calendite reads the whole title, not a list of keywords. It understands what the words mean and how they relate, so it can colour titles it has never seen:
| Title | Why it looks the way it does |
|---|---|
| Christmas Night | Christmas's red, made dark by "night" |
| Blue Christmas | A colour you name wins |
| Fathers Day | Read as "Father's Day", even without the apostrophe |
| German lesson | Germany's colour: a language takes its country's colour |
| Early shift | Shifts have set colours: early yellow, normal blue, late green, night black |
| Romantic dinner | Love is red |
The suggested colour appears in the Event colour row as you type. Tap the row to see it in the colour picker, with other colours that would suit the title under Suggested for this title.
The suggestion only applies while you're creating or editing an event. An event keeps the colour it was saved with: nothing you change later recolours your existing events.
It learns from you
When you pick an event's colour yourself, from the picker or from one of the suggestions, Calendite notices. When two of your events in a row share a word and have a similar colour, it learns that word's colour. From then on, new titles with that word lean towards your colour.
| You make | Calendite learns |
|---|---|
| "Lunch with Sam" in green | Nothing yet: it could be lunch that's green, or Sam |
| …then "Sam's birthday" in a similar green | Sam is green: the word the two have in common |
| …then "Gym" events in purple, purple, then one orange | Gym stays purple: one different colour doesn't change it |
| …then two more orange gym events in a row | Gym is orange now |
Your colour doesn't have to be exactly the same each time, just close. Keeping a suggestion doesn't teach it anything, and nor does re-saving an old event without changing its colour.
It learns only from events you still have. Delete an event and it no longer counts.
The Colours screen
More → Settings → Colours shows what shapes your suggestions.
Learned from you
Every word Calendite has learned, with its colour and how many of your events taught it. Tap a word to see those events. Remove forgets it; if you colour that word again later, it can learn it again from your new events.
Concepts
Some ideas a title can carry nudge the colour: love, death, water, health, work, money, time of day, children, and others. Each can be changed:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Switch | Turn the concept off, and it stops affecting suggestions |
| Strength | Make it a gentle nudge, or let it decide |
| Colour | Tap a concept's colour to choose another. Titles it applies to then take your colour. Set "Death" to white and a funeral comes out white. Reset puts it back. |
Some concepts don't have a colour of their own. They make colours lighter, darker, softer, more vivid or warmer, so they have just the switch and the strength. Reset all concepts returns every concept to how it came.
